XR Applications in AEC Education Framework

In this article, we present a framework to guide AEC educators in selecting optimal Extended Reality (XR) modalities, along with appropriate XR software and hardware, based on their educational objectives and individual ranking of various factors. Importantly, this framework organizes the often-daunting process of deciphering these XR modalities, their advantages/limitations, and available types of software that can be used in conjunction with the selected hardware. Grounded in the Model of Domain Learning framework’s learning stages and interest phases, the proposed framework can help educators better align their learning objectives and priorities before selecting a particular XR modality.
